This week’s Pick of the Week is a recent interview with Lindsay Ell who is currently on the road with The Band Perry! Check out our interview with her below where we got to chat with her all about her new single, touring with the Band Perry and more!
TC: Can you tell us about about your current single, “Trippin’ On Us”?
LE: Well I wrote “Trippin’ On Us” with some good friends of mine, David Fanning and Vicky McGehee. We wrote it down in Breckenridge, Colorado and originally we just wanted to write a song that was up-tempo and positive about young love and then David and I started jamming on that opening guitar riff and three hours later it came right on the page.
TC: Was the song inspired by anyone specific?
LE: You know it was just the three of us and we got talking about how a lot of female artists these days have all these sad, heavier songs and we just wanted to write something really uplifting, so it was sort of a collaborative experience of all three of us and our past relationships and just trying to focus on the first few instances of a relationship when you meet somebody.
TC: What’s your songwriting process normally like?
LE: My songwriting process really depends on the day. I’m a guitar player and since I’m musically based it often starts with the music or a guitar riff and then from there I go off of a title or an idea and then it sort of starts to form and the song progresses from there.
TC: What has the whole experience of touring with the Band Perry on their We Are Pioneers World Tour been like for you?
LE: It’s been truly amazing. The Band Perry have hearts of gold in and out and I have so much respect for them from a personal standpoint and from a business standpoint. They work so hard and so it’s been amazing being able to be on the road with them and getting a chance to see their operations hands-on. They’re just so sweet through and through and their whole camp welcomed us like we were part of the family so it was very special.
TC: Did anything crazy happen to you while you were out on tour?
LE: Nothing too crazy – knock on wood. We actually took the tour up in Europe in November and it was incredible, we played 20 shows in 9 different countries in under 30 days and we learned so much. We got to see so many cities and historical things and we definitely had a lot of fun, and then beginning in January we were able to kick off the tour in Canada – it just feels amazing to tour in my home country.
TC: What else do you have coming up this year that fans can look forward to?
LE: After we finish touring with the Band Perry in March we will be hopping into the studio to record the rest of the record and then from there we’ll be doing lots of festivals this summer and then hopefully an album release in the fall!
