TC: Tell us a bit about your new single, “If You Ask Me To”?

MP: My new single is simply about falling head-over-heels in love at a young age and believing that that love will take root, grow and with time, become bigger and stronger…just like a tall Jack Pine! It is about believing “true love” can last and the will to sacrifice everything to make sure it does. I’m really proud of this song and the video. I am really hoping that people relate to the story.

TC: What was the songwriting process for it like?

MP: “If You Ask Me To” took a few writing sessions to complete. We started off with the verses and quickly became very excited about the direction of the song. The chorus however, was more difficult. I was completely captivated by the verse lyrics so I didn’t want the chorus to fall short. It wasn’t a song that just rolled off my pen, like others have. I am proud of the final result. I was completely in love with someone when I wrote this song so the sentiment was very real. I wanted to make sure the lyrics and melody really captured the honesty of those feelings. I wrote it with Tebey and Chris Burke-Gaffney.

TC: The music video for “If You Ask Me To” features you portraying the main character through various stages of her life, what was it like filming the video?

MP: I absolutely loved filming this video. The director, David Tenniswood and I wrote the concept for the video but what we had on paper was nothing compared to how it turned out. Those who really know me, know I’m crazy about anything vintage so I knew I wanted the “vintage” look from the start. The song is a love song so we needed to build a story line that wasn’t your typical “we are so in love” music video. Everyone from actors to crew were absolutely incredible on this shoot and together David and I had full creative control which these days is pretty rare and pretty amazing!

TC: What else have you got coming up that fans can look forward to?

MP: Right now I am completing my album, acting on a few projects. I’m excited to be going into the studio again in early April to finish up the last few tracks. I can’t wait for everyone to hear what I’ve been working on. The songs on the album are all very close to my heart so I hope the people who listen, will really feel that passion. My one and only goal for the album is that my fans and friends will emotionally relate to all the songs, whether they evoke tears during the sad ones or dancing during the uptempo!
