This year has been one for the books. It feels like the last 5 or 6 years of my life have been one long year that’s gone by in the blink of an eye, and I really haven’t taken time to sit back and appreciate the highlights. So this post is just that. The highlights. ⁣⁣ •⁣⁣ My personal favourite one was our wedding day. I’m so fortunate to have found someone like Clay who embraces this abnormal career I’ve chosen and supports me through the good, the, bad, and the ugly. I genuinely hope every one of you reading this can find someone or something that makes you as happy as my husband makes me. ❤️⁣⁣ •⁣⁣ Next was winning album of the year at the @ccmaofficial awards for “Past The Past”. The first time a woman has won this award in 14 years. (High five to my girl @cdjinthehouse for “Dress Rehearsal”!) Like every album I’ve released, I poured everything I had into this one. Unlike any other album I’ve released, I brought in a camera crew to record the studio process, and had to try to work through recording, filming, creating, and keeping my composure when finding out my grandpa passed on our last studio day. This album has more emotion than any other, and I can’t imagine a better way to honour my grandfather’s memory. ⁣⁣ •⁣⁣ This guy asked me to go on tour with him for some reason. Again. (Ready for #TheJourneyTour with @imalbertabound @highvalleyofficial and @hunterbros in T-minus 26 days!!!)⁣⁣ •⁣⁣ I had the opportunity to record and release a Christmas record full of my favourite holiday tracks with a handful of my favourite people (@imalbertabound @hunterbros @thelovelocks @cassadeepope) – it’s still not too late to listen to Christmas music you know… #ASmallTownChristmas⁣⁣ •⁣⁣ I knocked a pretty cool thing off the old bucket list and got to play @thebluebirdcafe_ with @philbarton222 with my best friend in the room before @courtdanielson9 went back to Australia. ⁣⁣ •⁣⁣ Last, but VERY much not least, I met, chatted with, hugged (a LOT), got pointers from, and shared a stage with my childhood idol, @shaniatwain while singing her songs in front of her with my girlfriends @kiraisa1 and @madelinemerlo. Hard to go up from there, hey?⁣ ⁣⁣ Happy New Year!

My resolutions are all so stupid. I mean I always have the typical health one we all make. I’m starting to see some great results from a program that the Brett Kissel band recommended to me (Athlean X) which is exciting! I’m going to do my best to stick to that and not get lazy. I think a big health resolution for me is to drink water! It sounds funny but I don’t drink nearly enough water. Coffee on the other hand… Also, I want to stay creatively balanced. Focus on my country music for sure but I have had top 40s in 3 genres now and I want to keep making sure I’m making a dent in Canadian music a writer as well. My publishers at Red Brick Songs are amazing – they get me into so many great situations, I just have to make sure I’m taking advantage of all my opportunities!”

2018. The year that simultaneously tried to break me but also gave me the greatest blessings of my life. Many lessons learned, lessons that hurt, but also taught me more about myself than any other year of my life. I fell in love twice this year. Once with my sweet Maisy girl when I became her Aunt. Once, and over and over again with a man who seemingly knew exactly how to love me from the moment I met him. I got to hunt hogs out of a helicopter. I got to tour across the country with the best band a girl could ask for, and even made our way out to France for our first European show. We played our first sold out headlining festival. Played our first cross country co-headline (nearly all sold-out) tour with my boys @jamesbarkerband and @jojomasonmusic. I got my first #1 at Canadian country radio with a song that I am so proud of, and watched my best friend get his first #1. I got my heart broken and my trust betrayed, but I had the most amazing team, friends and family right behind me ready to help me pick up the pieces. I grew closer to God and chose faith over fear (although I’m still working on that one). 2018, thank you for showing me what I’m made of and for giving me forever love.

This year, I will learn to love my Edmonton Oilers hockey team for who they are and not get too invested in their win or loss record. When they lose – it affects my mood, and I need to learn to love them and love myself even when they’re losing.”

Tim Hicks

“I’m not really a resolution guy to be honest!”
