Top Country Awards of 2017: Best of Canadian Country Music

Top Country Awards of 2017

2017 was filled with incredible music, historical moments, and spectacular looks. As we look forward to what 2018 will bring, we also look back at the year that was and honour the very best in Canadian country music.

Top Country put together four categories for the 2017 Top Country Awards. The best part?! The fans chose the winners! The categories include Top Country Song, Top Country Look, Top Country Charitable Moment, and Top Country Dog!

Top Country Song

2017 brought us some awesome music, so we made a list of 15 songs from established stars and emerging talent alike.

Among the nominees were Dean Brody’s “Time”, which was the #1 Canadian song at country radio in 2017, James Barker Band’s first #1 hit “Chills”, and Jess Moskaluke’s “Drive Me Away”, which earned her the honour of becoming the first solo female artist to place in the top five on Canadian country radio in nine years.

Add in some newcomers like The Reklaws and the CCMA Female Artist of the Year Meghan Patrick, and the choice was a difficult one.

WINNER: JAMES BARKER BAND – CHILLS

Top Country Look

Canadian country artists commanded stages and red carpets everywhere in 2017 with their dazzling styles. From the JUNO Awards to the CMA Awards, Canadians showed off their flair and made some memorable impressions.

At the CCMA Awards, Madeline Merlo wowed fans with her amazing performance and look in a stunning floral outfit. Meghan Patrick, who won Female Artist of the Year and the SiriusXM Rising Star Award looked striking in white. Jess Moskaluke looked sensational in her black dress while winning the JUNO for Country Album of the Year and Lindsay Ell turned heads at the CMA Awards in her red dress, earning spots on many Best Dressed lists.

Top Country Charitable Moment

Canadian country artists gave back to the community in many different ways this past year and we wanted to highlight some of the things our favourite artists did to help people in need.

Niagara Falls native Tim Hicks gave four schools in his hometown region $15,000 worth of instruments to help improve their music programs. Gord Bamford’s Annual Charity Golf Classic raised over $300,000 for the Gord Bamford Charitable Foundation, which helps a variety of youth-centered charities across the country. Hunter Brothers put on a charity concert in their hometown to raise over $60,000 for local businesses in Saskatchewan. Lindsay Ell partnered with the non profit organization Notes for Notes to open up a free to use community recording studio for kids in Nashville.

Top Country Dog

Our personal favourite, the Top Country Dog goes to your favourite pooch in Canadian country music in 2017! Country artists naturally love dogs so we chose four nominees who we thought were worthy of being crowned the Top Country Dog of 2017.

The nominees are Dean Brody’s Duckie, Jess Moskaluke’s Nala, Brett Kissel’s Charlie, and Chad Brownlee’s Ellie.

WINNER: BRETT KISSEL’S DOG CHARLIE
