Fans of the TV show Survivor will recognize the name Baylor Wilson as she just appeared on the most recent season of the hit CBS reality series. After placing 5th on the show she released her debut country single, “Everybody Get Up!” and now she has released a brand new single and music video, “Daddy’s Girl” – and we got to chat with her all about it!
Check out our interview with Baylor below and watch the video for “Daddy’s Girl”.
TC: What made you decide to pursue a career in country music?
BW: Basically, writing songs became my therapy in high school (which my mom was happy about because I saved her a lot of money)… :) Then, I realized that writing and performing my songs was what I was born to do. I aim to inspire and relate to my listeners, as well as help people get through things they need to get through.
TC: Can you tell us a bit about your new single “Daddy’s Girl”?
BW: Daddy’s Girl is a true story about my experiences growing up. My mom and dad got divorced when I was 11 months old, and then mom moved us back to Texas.
TC: What’s one of your favourite lines or lyrics from “Daddy’s Girl” and why?
BW: My favorite is definitely “I’m the daughter of my father, but I ain’t no daddy’s girl” because it’s very true to my soul and relatable to many other girls/women who have grown up with the same situation.
TC: What was the process of creating your self-titled E.P like?
BW: The process was a blast… I got to work with incredibly talented musicians and songwriters plus I got to record the songs I am most proud of!
TC: Do you think appearing on Survivor helped to prepare you at all for starting a career in country music?
BW: Yes, I believe appearing on Survivor allowed me to get a sneak-peak of what its like to pursue a career in entertainment. You have to “play the game” constantly, and I learned how to do that in a different environment; however, the same applies in the music industry every day.
TC: You’ll be visiting Toronto this summer, will this be your first time visiting Canada and what are you most excited about doing while you’re here?
BW: I have been to Canada once before in high school on a backpacking trip… It was beautiful. I am excited to experience the city life!
TC: What else do you have coming up this summer that fans can look forward to?
BW: I am going to be writing and recording this summer, now sure what exactly the project will be yet… But there has been talk of touring as well. We’ll see :)
